Baylor College of Medicine
Simplifying the authentication process for medical professionals

The Business

The Baylor College of Medicine is an internationally respected medical and research institution known for excellence in education, research, and patient care. The school is consistently among the highest ranked learning institutions in the country and is currently ranked 10th overall among research institutions in the U.S.
The Challenge

In February of 2006 Baylor engaged CPSG to evaluate possible Identity Management (IdM) solutions. The client already had an existing user provisioning system, but they were becoming overwhelmed with the responsibility of supporting and administering the custom application. They were also being flooded with new requests for additional functionality. The client needed a commercially maintained IdM solution to consolidate and simplify the provisioning services. This solution would need to be flexible, standards-driven, and stable. Also, there would be an immediate need to replace the existing password synchronization system, replace the custom roles manager for SAP, and provide for a secure, workflow controlled method for decommissioning user accounts.
How CPSG Consultants Helped

After a comprehensive review of the client’s business objectives through the IdM RoadmapTM, CPSG facilitated an architecture review and assessment workshop/meeting with the support of the client’s IT and medical departments. Based on findings from the IdM RoadmapTM, CPSG delivered a comprehensive identity strategy and technical architecture for all centrally managed systems and applications that would provide material impact to the client’s user provisioning and Employee Life-Cycle Management (ELCM) processes. This project was delivered on time and with in the initial project budget.

Phase I - User Provisioning

CPSG proposed a complete phased approach for implementing IdM which included:

  • IdM definition and evaluation
  • Analysis of current processes and Change Remove Update and Disable (“CRUD”) strategy
  • Defining future IdM related processes and strategy
  • IdM product evaluation and architecture
  • Vendor POC’s
  • Design enterprise IdM platfom
