Consolidating their systems and services onto a single Internet platform

The Business
A multi-billion dollar publicly traded global technology services company consisting of two segments, oilfield services
and technology consulting, headquartered in Paris, with over 75,000 employees operating in over 160 different countries
around the world.
The Challenge
This client had been operating like many companies in the Net Economy - buying the technology it needed to get systems
and applications up and running as quickly as possible. As a result, they had too many business applications scattered
across their organization. The goal was to remove redundancies and reduce costs by consolidating their systems and
services onto a single Internet platform. The company set out to create a standards-based user identity platform for
their business applications that would allow them to easily add additional features, enhance their customer experience,
and reduce their expenses.
How CPSG Consultants Helped
Impressed with our consultants’ credentials, this company contracted members of our team to establish a product testing
and evaluation program office, performed and planned product selection criteria, and executed a methodology for
establishing a standards-based, user identity platform. Our consultants’ acted independently to conduct a thorough
comparison of all leading identity management and technology products that could integrate with the customers back-end
systems. After our consultants spent two months product testing and evaluating various identity management components,
they selected a best of breed approach. Selecting the SunONE™ Directory Platform to enable the storage of their user’s
attributes and Computer Associates’ (CA) SiteMinder for Role Based Access Control (RBAC) this client developed a cohesive
identity management infrastructure. Once deployed these technologies assisted this client to develop, deploy and manage
their user’s identities across all their critical business applications.
To unify their user management services, our consultants began building the new platform coined “Unified User Management
Services”, as an integrated suite of products that provide a common location for storing user information, policy
information, and security information. The Unified User Management Services provides an open standards-based approach
to delivering secure information to the business. It strengthens security control by centralizing access control, yet
allowing the clients’ customers to have the ability to access all applications and systems on the Web with only one
entrance of their user-ID and password.
